John Newcombe has been in Texas for quite a while.  Even though I've never been there, the fact that he's sytaed with it for such a long time, and is still in business, indicates to me that they're doing a lot of things correctly.  I would think it should be OK.  The family-oriented, sportsmanship emphasis that I see in his web site is appealing to me.  One way you can find out would be to talk to players who've been there, and finally send your daughter and  take the plunge.   Back in the 50 s and 60 s, Harry Hopman's Davis Cup teams from Australia were known for doing lots of hard, physical work.  Along with John Newcombe, we have Laver, Emerson, Rosewall, Hoad, Roche, etc.  Now, everybody's doing lots of physical workouts and conditioning, so it's not unusual.You could ask the coordinator/director to give you some names and phone numbers parents of former or current campers who've played there.
