With government studnet loans you cannot declare bankruptcy.They can take your tax returns, even your social security when you retire.With private studnet loans you can indeed declare bankruptcy.But is is this something you really want to do?Employers check credit reports, so do landlords and car insurance companies (you'll pay more).And, you won't be able to get credit for anything for many years to come.You will devastate your credit rating .
